PDF/A is an ISO standardized version of the Portable Document Format (PDF) that specializes in archiving and long-term preservation of digital documents. PDF/A differs from the standard PDF format by prohibiting features unsuitable for long-term archiving, such as font binding (as opposed to embedding fonts) and encryption.
The main advantage of this format is that the files in PDF/A format are faithful to the original documents: the fonts, images, graphic objects and formatting of the source file are preserved, regardless of the application and the platform used to create it.
